As a former visual arts instructor with Metro Nashville Public Schools, I am conditioned to find ways to stretch a budget for materials. When I see a use for something beyond its intended purpose, I find it hard to discard. Folks would leave broken dishes and other items on my front porch when I lived in Hillsboro Village near Dragon Park and that continues today in Bell Buckle. The Bell Buckle Coffee Shop saves mugs and merchandise that arrives broken as does the Bell Buckle Cafe. Others bring remnants from projects around their home.
Other materials I may use in my work are dental tools for cleaning excess adhesive. Lately, I’ve been using skewers leftover from the Bell Buckle Mosaic House Open House event in June. And these skewers have a flamingo on the end so it’s adds a bit of whimsy to the process! So you don’t have to go out and buy all of the tools right off the bat to get started. Happy Mosaicking!
