I graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1981. I was living in Park City, Kentucky and took a job at a denim sewing factory in Cave City for the summer until my teaching job started in the fall. These ladies at the factory would tape their fingers to keep the denim from wearing blisters as the fabric continuously ran through their hands. They were the hardest working folks I’ve ever seen trying to meet that quota. At the time I knew my experience there was limited and thought there is no way I could keep taping my hands to keep doing that job.
Fast forward to today…..I band-aid my fingers all the time to keep doing my mosaic work. I try to keep gloves on but they always end up coming off. I think of the sewing ladies often as I cover my hand or a finger (or two) so I can keep working. I guess one could call that passion (among a plethora of other options). In the meantime….take care of your hands…and go find your passion!
