How do you know if you can use a material in an outdoor mosaic? Well….that depends on where you live. Here in Tennessee, the material has to withstand the freeze/thaw cycle. One such material that will is Fiesta dinnerware. And…its comes in great colors!
Many years ago (20), I would frequent the Nashville Flea Market. There was a couple that was always there with their booth filled to the brim with Fiesta dishes. I kept showing up asking what they did when they broke pieces. Ultimately they began selling me boxes of assorted items damaged in transport.
Fast forward to 2019, I still had a collection of various Fiesta pieces I’d held on too. The first piece beyond the front door on the Bell Buckle Mosaic House to be created was the giraffe. Several saved Fiesta pieces helped to add dimension to the face of the giraffe. The giraffe was moved from its original placement a few years later once it was determined I would finish the whole creature. I used up most of that Fiesta working my way across the facade of the Bell Buckle Mosaic House.
Have a great week friends!
